When to go

The cycling season in the Oisans runs through summer and early autumn, when the high passes are open. Set off early in the morning: traffic is lighter and the heat less intense on the exposed hairpins.

🚴 Top tip: the Oisans Col Series

On certain Tuesdays in summer, some Oisans climbs (including Alpe d'Huez, the Croix de Fer and Les Deux Alpes) are closed to cars for the morning and reserved for cyclists. Free, no registration needed. The schedule changes every year: check it with the Oisans tourist offices.
